I might have discovered a new obsession… Space Elevators, Dyson Spheres, Hanging Cities, there are so many larger than life megastructures in games and other media that have captivated me recently. But among all of that wonder… There is something haunting and dreadful about them. A truth hidden in their concept that chills me to my bones. Let’s talk about it.

How Undertale Put Sans "Over"
Просмотров 86 тыс.Месяц назад
Almost 5 years ago, I uploaded a video called “How Toby Fox Put Sans Over”. I remember being extremely proud of it and it really taking off in views! Unfortunately, a year later, WWE copyright struck it into obscurity and you can no longer watch it on RUclips. Fast forward to now. People are asking me what ever happened to it, why I took it down, etc. So in a world where EVERYTHING is being rem...

Games That Hide The Horror In The Ordinary

Many of the games we play nowadays work because they are bombastic, colorful, endlessly packed with wonder. And generally, all of the things that give them those qualities are placed right before our eyes in the form of big moments, big boss fights, big plot points. But there are a handful of games I played recently that make that wonder in the subtext… games that craft their horror in the litt...

I live in paris and there are 2 train stations, chatlet and les halles which both connect to the same shopping mall. In my head 2 train stations are 2 places that are near each other but still different places however those 2 train stations are pretty much the same place, so it makes this mall feel very big. I know it's nothing compared to the stuff in this video but it's still weird to think about.

I've never cried so much reading a comment section or even commented on a video. This video is beyond what words can explain. Daryl, your ability to articulate with such creativity, and your storytelling abilities is something that I aspire to attain in this lifetime. There are several videos of yours that has made me think or emotional, but this one made me cry. That in conjunction with reading everyones stories and how souls-like games has influenced them made me feel apart of a community of people who are going through similar struggles. This was an amazing video, and I wish you all the best.

an interesting example of a city so big that it becomes a planet (or a planet becomes a city?) that i particularly like is in Ulysses Dies At Dawn by The Mechanisms. funnily enough, there are no images, as this is an album by a band. the description is entirely verbal, which means that it's left up to your imagination. such an incredibly large megastructure is impossible to fully convey in images, but UDAD doesn't need to try.

These are things I think about when the easy mode in Souls games conversation pops up. And basically summarizes the reason I think it should not be included. There are games for every taste but not every game is for everyone, and that's fine. The feeling of community knowing we all faced the same challenges, even if we did so in wildly different ways, is such a beautiful, important thing. A lot of people see this as gatekeeping. It's not. It's the refusal to sacrifice the soul of a work of art, of a community built around it, for the sake of bringing more people in. Souls games don't change to accommodate you, me or anyone else. We put the work and use the tools we're given to rise to their challenge. Not everyone will have the time and patience for this, and that's fine. I'm a working dad and beating Gael back in DS3 took me two weeks because of how little time I could put into it. But when I finally did it, it was because of me, because of what I learnt and the decisions I made in that fight. That's more of a life lesson most narrative-based games will teach you.

I did everything in Breath of the Wild right up until Ganon, and it took me two years before I finally picked the game up again and beat the final boss. As as result, when I played Tears of the Kingdom, I intentionally skipped some major things (the fire and secret dungeons) and just beat the final boss way early, knowing I could go back and still play more. Zero regrets, it was actually really fun and a way cooler experience!!!

You just proved your entire point, invalid. You admit that your psychology of these games only applies to a small amount of people, when actual psychology applies to the entirety of the human race. Thus, if these games are not for everyone, the psychology behind these games is only limited to a minority of people. It is a fact that the majority of people do not feel or get any sense of accomplishment failing a task 10, 20, 30 or 100 times, the more we fail, the angrier we become, this is proven throughout history. Saying that people get a stronger sense of accomplishment after failing 100 times and then finally overcoming that obstacle is just outright lying.
